Jaguars losing skid could reach four games

…I think it will only get better

The Jacksonville Jaguars new offensive coordinator went through his first game with the Jags last week but with the same result, a loss that saddled them with a 2-6 record.

Changing the system mid-season is always questionable

The fact that the team fired Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson after week seven after he and Head Coach Gus Bradley failed to connect on a number of issues, namely the run game.

“Tough day…but regression offensively was the reason,” Olson jaguars-5told the NFL’s Ian Rapoport of his firing. “Couldn’t find an identity in the run game which significantly hurts Blake’s strengths as a QB. … Made great strides last year but didn’t follow up on the expectations. … Would be easy to look for excuses and it hurts, but part of the responsibility of being an OC.”

With Quarterbacks Coach Nathaniel Hackett’s promotion to Olson’s job, QB Blake Bortles had a great day going 22-41 for 252 yards, two touchdowns and one int. On top of that, the running game kicked in and added 205 rushing yards but still fell short in the 19-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I think it will help us find a rhythm,” Bortles said.  “You could tell those guys felt good about it.  “Anytime you run for 200 yards in the NFL it’s a big day and something to be proud of. One thing is even though we went for 200 we still left a lot of yards on the field.

Jaguars ready to bounce back this week

Chris Ivory slated to return

The Jacksonville Jaguars have begun the season with an 0-2 record that nobody saw coming.  With a squad with as much talent on it, it was kind of unfathomable.  But injuries and some erratic passes from Blake Bortles and a defense that could not stop a very determined/humiliated Chargers squad has led them to this.  Now they have to face the 2-0 Baltimore Ravens

Now, with Chris Ivory back in limited practice, Bortles may get some pressure taken off of him if the running game can get going.  The run offense is currently ranked 30th. A rough start indeed.

“You take a look back and you sit back and you re-evaluate jaguars-3things,” head coach Gus Bradley said. “I think we observed what happened, and we interpreted what happened. Now, we have to apply it. That’s where we’re at now. We have to apply it. We have to take a look at these things.”

The Jaguars also have to solve their penalty issues, which don’t seem to have been addressed since early preseason.  The Jaguars have been called for 23 penalties for 172 yards while their opponents have eight penalties for 47 yards.

The game kicks off at noon on Sunday and plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jaguars ready for a new season

Bortles ready for a new beginning

After leading the league in interceptions last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are confident that Blake Bortles will not lead in that category this season.  His work in the offseason has paid off as Bortles was named a team captain for offense which shows the trust the coaching staff has in his ability along with defensive team captain Paul Posluszny and special teams team captain Carson Tinker.

“three great picks. Those guys are well-deserving.,” Head Coach Gus Bradley said.

jaguars-2“Blake has really been self-improving,” general manager Dave Caldwell said. “He’s taken the bull by the horns in terms of how he goes about his business.  Hopefully, Blake will continue to improve and build. But he’s in a good stage in his development. And make no mistake, he’s still developing.”

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are coming into the game as favorites and under Mike McCarthy and Rodgers, the offense has been a work of art while Clay Matthews anchors a defense that ranked 12th last year…look for both to improve this season.
