Among the teams the Cardinals called were the , who need an experienced backup for after putting Jim Sorgi on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. Talks with the Giants did not go far, though, according to a person with knowledge of the talks. The Giants have no real interest in Leinart, who has made clear in interviews that he wants to be a starter.
Leinart’s opportunities to be a starter may be limited. Among other teams with tenuous quarterback situations are the , whose starter is Trent Edwards, and the , who traded for Jason Campbell during the summer. But the Raiders said in a statement that they had not discussed acquiring Leinart and were “very happy” with their quarterback situation.
Leinart, who has started 17 games in his first four seasons, is due to make more than $10 million in base salary in the next two years. With teams having to pare their rosters to 53 players by Saturday, Leinart’s future will most likely be determined in the next few days.
In comments to Arizona reporters, Leinart questioned the Cardinals’ motives for starting Anderson in the final preseason game this week, and his body language has conveyed how unhappy he is in Arizona.

Although starters usually play only a couple of series in the final preseason game, Roethlisberger is lobbying to take snaps in the no-huddle offense Thursday night against Carolina.
The new center Maurkice Pouncey and right tackle Flozell Adams have not worked with Roethlisberger out of the no-huddle formation except in practice. Roethlisberger does not want to wait until the games count before getting in the work.
