Changing the system mid-season is always questionable
The fact that the team fired Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson after week seven after he and Head Coach Gus Bradley failed to connect on a number of issues, namely the run game.
“Tough day…but regression offensively was the reason,” Olson
told the NFL’s Ian Rapoport of his firing. “Couldn’t find an identity in the run game which significantly hurts Blake’s strengths as a QB. … Made great strides last year but didn’t follow up on the expectations. … Would be easy to look for excuses and it hurts, but part of the responsibility of being an OC.”
With Quarterbacks Coach Nathaniel Hackett’s promotion to Olson’s job, QB Blake Bortles had a great day going 22-41 for 252 yards, two touchdowns and one int. On top of that, the running game kicked in and added 205 rushing yards but still fell short in the 19-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I think it will help us find a rhythm,” Bortles said. “You could tell those guys felt good about it. “Anytime you run for 200 yards in the NFL it’s a big day and something to be proud of. One thing is even though we went for 200 we still left a lot of yards on the field.
